Laguna House Dress
Our foot-loomed house dresses are woven in the highlands of Guatemala by our master weaver, Octaviano. The beauty of this dress goes beyond its appearance, the work that goes into making each yard, the fact that it provides work for skilled artisans and helps preserve century old weaving techniques and traditions, makes this dress the perfect sustainable gift!
A little history about our artisanal textiles:
Our foot-loomed house dresses are made with 100% cotton thread and woven in the highlands of Guatemala. Our master weaver, Octaviano learned to weave from his parents as a child, he has been weaving for 4 decades! Each yard takes 6-8 hours to weave! The weave design is centuries old, we have updated the pattern slightly to avoid wasting some of the fabric during confection of the dress.
Machine wash cold. Tumble dry low heat or hung to dry. Remove promptly. Press if desired.
How we make them
Hand weaving is the most carbon-neutral way of producing fashion materials, and our foot-loomed cotton is ideal for the minimalist in all of us. Weaved in the highlands of Guatemala by Maya master weavers who use century old techniques that cannot be duplicated by machines. Guatemala is the motherland of foot-loomed textiles. For centuries, the beautiful hands of women, AND men, have used the back-strap and foot-loom as their writing instruments to record their history, their dreams, and love of their country. Our natural cotton is everything you want for you and your family, soft, natural, and chemical free.
Handmade by Artisans
Artisanal products differ from fast fashion products in that they are made in a traditional or non-mechanized way. Artisanal products are hand-crafted by skilled cobblers in small quantities with high quality and design in mind; using techniques that cannot be replicated by machines!
